About

Picture of myself

Thank you for stopping by, I’m Caroline and I love books and coffee. I mean seriously….it’s a problem.

I come from and live in a beautiful part of the world called Yorkshire which is in the North of England. If you are a Game of Thrones fan, it’s just like Jon Snow country. Wild, beautiful, the North always remembers and all that…..but with a lot less incest and violent death, ooh and a lot more rain.

Growing up, my parents always said that if they ever lost me they would expect to find me in a bookshop, curled up reading. Straight out of University I thought that seemed a great idea and became a bookseller, working my way steadily round the country. I did this for 13 years, loved every second and made friends for life as well as meeting my husband along the way. But it became time to move on (from bookselling, not my Husband obviously). I didn’t move very far and worked for a book printers where I tried to convince everyone I knew what I was doing, but really had not a clue. Exciting and terrifying as this was, I moved again but never lost my passion for reading.

Reading is fab! I personally don’t think it matters what you read just as long as you read. Read something, anything - the latest Booker prize winner, a beach read, The Beano, a magazine, heavens, read the back of a cornflakes packet if you must and let yourself be transported to different times, lands and erm….flake manufacture and you will hopefully be a calmer person for it.

My other passions include cake and coffee, namely eating and drinking it. So I aim to publish a few of my baking adventures. Concurrently, I am always on a quest to lose weight and get fit. But I don’t get hung up too much on that especially when coffee and walnut cake is in the offing. It’s all about balance people and my scales are set to the cake tin.

You’ll find quite a few book reviews on here. I will only post about books I’ve enjoyed. Knowing the effort, love, blood and sweat needed to write a novel, it would not be right for me to criticise an author’s work. A book I may not enjoy, you may truly love. But if I can point you to a book I’ve enjoyed then it’s all good.

You name it I’ll read it. I love crime fiction, (I’m a massive Agatha Christie fan!), Fiction, Classics, Children’s Books, Non-Fiction, Biography, History. My least favourites genres are probably Sci-fi/Fantasy and technical guides but I will always give them a go if I need something to read.

So that’s me, thanks again for stopping by. I hope you’ll join me for a cuppa and a chat along the way.

You can always get in touch with me. I'd love to hear from you especially if you have any good book recommendations, to talk about nice cakes or even just for a natter. You can either email a private message to caroline@coffeebooksandcake.com or alternatively leave me a comment on the blog.

Thank you

Caroline

Message to Publishers

Hi there, thank you for stopping by. I am a UK based book reviewer and former Bookseller I love books (obviously!) and am passionate about getting people to read.

I love to read most genres particularly crime fiction, classics, contemporary fiction, historical fiction and children’s novels. I do also love a good biography or history.

The genre I read least is probably Sci-fi/Fantasy, but I have read some great examples of this genre over the years.

I only post reviews of books that I have loved and enjoyed. I want my blog to be about books I am passionate about and would recommend to a good friend. Because book opinions can be so subjective and knowing how much passion, care and love that authors pour into their work I will not post a review if I have not enjoyed a book.

I read approximately 2-3 books per week, and would aim to post a review within a few months.

If you would like me to review a book, first of all thank you for considering me. I would love to work with you. You can get in touch with me via the contact page on the blog. I will always respond to your email.

Thank you

Caroline
