Hi there, and welcome to Coffee, Books and Cake

I’m Caroline, I love books and obviously coffee and cakes too. I am passionate about getting you reading the right book for you.

Are you looking for your next read?

Are you constantly wondering what do I read next?

Are you starting out on your reading journey and not sure where to start?

Are you returning to reading after a break, but a bit overwhelmed at the thought of going into a bookshop?

Or are you simply looking for a bit of cosiness during these strange times?

Then, my lovelies, Coffee, Books and Cake could well be for you!

Coffee Books and Cake is for those looking for their next read. If you can imagine we are 2 friends having a catch up over coffee and talk turns to what we are reading. We might be chatting about what books are on our respective nightstands, what it is really like to work in a bookshop. We might even set ourselves a couple of bookish challenges.

I am a former bookseller with over a decade of experience recommending lovely books to lots of lovely people. I truly believe that reading is for everyone and it does not matter what you are reading, just that you are reading is enough. Whether it’s a children’s book, an easy read, a romance or something more literary, I’ve got you covered! I’ll recommend the latest books that I have read as well as some of my personal favourites for you.

On the blog you can expect

  • Posts every week
  • Book reviews - I only post books I have enjoyed and that have entertained me. Knowing the sheer hard work, blood sweat and tears it takes to create a book, it would not be appropriate for me to criticise an author’s work
  • Book information such as lists of books by series
  • Challenges such as the BBC Big Read Challenge
  • News such as award information
  • Themed lists of books - want some recommendations about running books? I’m your gal!

You’ll probably also discover that I am obsessed with Christmas but that is a tale for another day.

A Bit More about Me

I am a former bookseller who worked for 2 major bookshop chains in the UK at a very exciting time in British publishing. Whilst there I was a buyer, a children’s bookseller, an academic bookseller, ran a very successful book group with 35 members and worked lots of lovely bookish events. I have dressed up as an oompa loompa, fallen out of a shop window, hosted quizzes and saved my manager from being trampled by 30 frenzied Harry Potters,

And of course I love reading myself and sharing great reads with people. I live in the marvellous county of West Yorkshire and am married to the lovely Chris. When I’m not reading, which let’s face it is nearly never, I love baking and eating cake, jigsaws and metal music. I sometimes like to pretend that I am a runner, but then usually have a good laugh at myself and stop.

I'd love to hear from you especially if you have any good book recommendations, to talk about nice cakes or even just for a natter. You can either email a private message to caroline@coffeebooksandcake.com or alternatively leave me a comment on the blog.

You can also follow me over on Instagram @coffeebooksandcake. I sometimes host reading challenges if you fancy joining me in one.

So grab a coffee and a cake, pull up a chair and let’s get started shall we?

Love

Caroline

P.S. In no particular order below is a list of my favourite ten books. You have no idea how hard this was, it’s like picking my favourite cake. I love them all!

One last thing, in order to be accountable for the amount of books I seem to be buying I've published the books currently on my To Be Read List, so you can see what will be coming up on the blog.

Message to Publishers

Hi there, thank you for stopping by. I am a UK based book reviewer and former Bookseller I love books (obviously!) and am passionate about getting people to read.

I love to read most genres particularly crime fiction, classics, contemporary fiction, historical fiction and children’s novels. I do also love a good biography or history.

The genre I read least is probably Sci-fi/Fantasy, but I have read some great examples of this genre over the years.

I only post reviews of books that I have loved and enjoyed. I want my blog to be about books I am passionate about and would recommend to a good friend. Because book opinions can be so subjective and knowing how much passion, care and love that authors pour into their work I will not post a review if I have not enjoyed a book.

I read approximately 2-3 books per week, and would aim to post a review within a few months.

If you would like me to review a book, first of all thank you for considering me. I would love to work with you. You can get in touch with me via the contact page on the blog. I will always respond to your email.

Thank you

Caroline
